Thats one thing I am paranoid about now is where I set up the welder, for that exact reason, the fan drawing in dust and possibly arcing out between components, Lincolns we used to have at work were terrible for this problem, not that it was me who was using them but I learned the lesson,Not so long ago my Jasic 250mig I use at work stopped working after a pop and cloud of smoke. I took it round to very helpful electrician round the corner. When we stripped it apart it also had rohr circuit boards fitted inside. It turned out to be a relay had burnt out which he was able to unsolder from the board and replace.
Main issue seemed to be the large build up of metal fillings the fan had drawn into the welder. Lesson learned I now on a monthly basis give the welder a good clean out.
