Hello everyone.
This is my first post but I've been visiting this website for years.
I need help diagnosing a fault with my Clarke weld 90EN. I bought this faulty on ebay 6 months ago and have been trying to diagnose it.
The guy who sold it to me said he thinks its a bad earth clamp. I have so far replaced: earth clamp and lead, Wire feed gearbox and motor assembly including feed roller wheel, Wire liner, tip and shroud.
I also removed and tested bridge rectifier it was okay. I replaced the relay on the main PCB. Cleaned all plugs and pins. stripped down the torch and cleaned all connections. all switches on welder are working, everything is okay.
But I am still getting the same problem as when I first tested it on arrival. every time I try to weld there is a lot of sputtering and I am not getting that constant sizzling sound, its hard to lay beads. I have tried different wire feed speed and different tensioner settings and even different polarity(-+). But when I increase the power Amps from minimum and 1 to maximum and 1 or higher It works better.
I am welding 1.0mm sheet metal using 0.8mm Flux core wire. But the same thing happens even on thicker 4mm metal. My main questions are:
Is there any rule for a Minimum Amp setting when using Flux cored welding wire VS solid wire?
Is this a fault or is this how this welder operates with Flux cored wire and low Amp settings?
Does anyone have a idea what might be at fault? I would like to get expert advise before buying any more replacement parts.
The guy who sold me the welder was more experienced in welding than me and he sold it because it was faulty. But I am aware that there are a lot of sellers that are not 100% truthful when selling old tools.
So any help from people who have experience with Clarke welders, exact model or similar and any help from other users of hobby MIGs and all expert advise will he great.
Thank you in advance.
