I'm thinking I should get meself a welder at long last to replace the horrific noah's arc welder that I have had to use in the past. I can use that do produce a weld that is far from pretty but just about does the job. I think the main problem is in most cases I am trrying to weld stuff that is too thin for it.
Now here are a few things to bear in mind if some of you more knowledgeable people are coming up with useful suggestions:
1) I won't use it all that often so I don't want to be paying out monthly rental on a big gas cylinder. I do have a big old cylinder that once was full of nitrous but I doubt that's any use and I have no account with anyone these days.
2) I need to be able to weld thin stuff, ie car bodywork, without melting loads of holes straight through it like my arc welder does if I even think about it.
3) It needs to be relatively learner friendly.
4) I want to spend around £300, absolute max of £400
Now I know that's not a massive amount but I figure if you can get really cheap crappy migs for a bit more than a hundred quid I should be able to get something vaguely reasonable for amateur use on the odd occasion.
I've seen that places like machinemart/ebay for instance do tig welders for about £300 but would they produce an acceptable result for this money, and do I have to be a super welding ninja to use one of those anyway?
Any suggestions/recommendations greatfully received. As I say I don't expect to be performing any welding miracles, it's just so I can patch things up occasionally if I need to, to a non horrible standard if possible (assuming I practise a bit once I get it!).
Many thanks.
Jim
