Getting the SJ ready for its first MOT in ten years. Fog light wasn't working. No wiring diagram so I followed the wires.
The +ve power feed to the fog light works fine. It goes through the fog light switch, so the fog light is switched on the +ve side. But no power at the negative terminal of the fog light. I follow the negative wire and it goes to an empty connector behind the glove box, and goes no further. The connector has lots of other wires. So I figured there should be some controller there.
Later I find a factory manual for my UK model which confirms there should be a "Dim-dip module" plugged into the empty controller. Whatever that is. Spoke to Suzuki Club UK. They said there should be a controller there that makes some "funky stuff" happen to meet some funky regs, that it goes wrong, most people remove it.
So I just earthed the negative on the fog light and it works, but now the fog light can be switched on when the car is off and is independent of the headlights (which it shouldn't be but apparently will still pass MOT).
So that's all fine but wondering if you brainiacs know or have any ideas what this funky controller could have done. From what I can identify, the other wires that go to the controller are:
1. Constant +ve power
2. Constant -ve power
3. A wire to the engine pressure guage
4. A wire to the headlight sprayers (which don't exist)
5. A wire to the switched headlight low beam (negative headlight feed is switched on this car)
6. Rear fog light earth
7. Two other wires that I couldn't identify
