Are you on a pedal or button?
Are you on a pedal or button?
You haven't just got the bug mate but considering its your second attempt you've got hidden talents too. Those look really good Matt.
Get some fillets set up and whack up the frequency.
Using that lump of cast for its intention I see.
That's exactly what I use mine for mate. It's great for thin Alu.
Wait till you've got a 1mm outside corner to weld and you get it tightly over the corner of that lump. Then hit it with 50 amps right across it and go like the clappers. You'll wonder how you ever managed with out it. It sucks that unwanted heat out like a sponge. Mine is used almost daily. Best 40 quid I ever spent.Yep, it's job is now my welding plate.
Flick it on to dc Matt.
Do an outside in mild steel 2-3mm.
This slows things down a lot allowing you to get to grips with the joint without bombing down it hurling tonnes of filler in it. Master it in dc first then the Alu will be easier.
Doable like that don't get me wrong but your not cheating by simply using the tools you've paid for to make your life easier. That sounds sensible.
I wasn't heat sinking it. In fact the top plate was just floating after being tacked so was a very small piece with all that heat going in.
