I'm no expert welder, I always seem to get quite a lot spatter when welding thicker materials. So what are the main causes of spatter and how would you go about minimising it?
If it's only mild steel, try dropping to 1.0mm, is the 40mm round solid?
1.0mm and slightly higher voltage should push it well into spray, you might need to "double" the wire feed rate though!
It'll keep you warm as well...
Yeah cougar 15, as a ball park figure ware would the voltage need to be?
And if all else fails, a couple of tins of anti spatter spray, at least you can wipe the spatter off easily.
