Hi, I realise I last posted here EIGHT years ago, with a similar fault on a different welder. Which I ended up getting rid of….
So, now have a Migatronic Automig 250 MXE (if I remember correctly). I’ve had it for six or seven years. Replaced the control PCB after having the original repaired a couple of times.
It’s been a great machine. So, I’ve not used it for maybe a couple of years. Got it out today. Worked fine for maybe a dozen runs. Then burnback. As in every time I pulled the trigger. Totally un-usable. Changed the virtually new tip. No change. Changed the whole to torch / liner assembly for a different unit. No change.
The wire was not obviously rusty, but as there was little left on the spool I fitted a new spool. New wire box was mouldy from storage and although wrapped, the wire isn’t sealed inside. Didn’t look visibly rusty.
Got it working. But it’s intermittent. It will run ok. Then be totally useless. It will even stop and burn back mid weld!
It seems that by running some wire through it will then be ok. For a while.
Could this all be due to crappy wire??? I’ve read of people running rusty wire and buggering up liners etc - this wire isn’t visibly rusty….
I’m pretty sure all the ‘usual’ causes - settings, bad earth, bad wire feed, bad technique etc are not relevant - as I’ve never had the issue before. And it is even now intermittent.
I intend to buy a new small spool of wire to try, and happy to chuck my new 15kg roll if that IS the issue.
Has anyone else had similar problems? Especially after a period of storage?
ANY HELP GRATEFULLY RECEIVED! Thanks
