Migatronic 180 automig .... not reeling wire

Hi all,

I have a Migatronic 180 automig that has stopped feeding the wire, any suggestions or does anyone have a PCB diagram for this model, also where to purchase a replacement torch and lead assembly.

The wire feed problem could be a few things. Check the motor by powering is with a 12v battery and see if it runs. Is thereany DC volts to the motor? If not then it could be the PCB or the supply to the PCB. The motor voltage comes from the welding voltage controlled by the PCB. Check to see if there is welding voltage when you press the torch trigger. If it is the PCB, I am able to repair them. If the torch goes in direct then a replacement torch is not available for this machine anymore. You would be able to convert it to a euro torch easily. PM me if you need any other info.

It could be one of the potentiometers or possibly the the smaller rotary switch. All are available fro maplin for about a quid each. Failling that check the big transistors that attach to the heatsink.
Over the 20 years Ive had my machine two pots and the rotary switch have gone kaput.

I did get the model wrong it is a Migatronic 180 MX.

I have tested the potentionmeters, large transistors all the resitors etc and kind find any faulty bits ??.

Just going to confirm next week the motor and trigger voltage, any one have a pcb diagram for this model ?? or shed any further light on other possible faults.

i have the same welder and instruction booklet to match i will have a look for you to see if it contains the info you need etc just be patient and when i get a min will go to my workshop and look at the book it came with etc

Thanks to all the replies I have found the fault with the welder and was a very simple fix.

Turns out moisture had got into the motor and caused some very fine surface rust on the area of the motor where the brushes meet the motor.

Quick rub with green scotch pad and away she went.
