hi guys, new to this forum, lots for me to read later, but for now i'd like to bend your ears on my problem...
i've bought a migatronic 140 mono. in unknown condition,. it has very little 'oomph' to the weld pool. even on highest setting. Although the whole welder is working, feeding, arcing, and all, it has a low power fault, (my description) i have measured the no load voltage, at around 26v on highest setting. but I dont have an amperage setting high enough. (only 2 amps.) I am using the 'basic welding' switch position, nothing fancy on the control panel etc.
I have confirmed all the following. new earth lead, and clamp. new euro socket, and hose/torch. good earth through torch. all terminations checked through welder, and contactor disassembled and contacts filed and reassembled. the six position power setting switch is all good.
All settings are 'low on power.' it's like i'm trying to weld on the lowest setting. huge blob welds, there is blue arcing, but also plenty of orange. p.s. trying to weld 0.8mm wire on 3 mm plate
The 6 capacitors look good, (visually) the heat sinkplates on the rectifier look good. but i haven't touched them yet.
I also have a working migatronic 5000mx, that i'm tempted to swap parts to prove fault etc. but i'm relutant to do this yet. where should i be concentrating guys? i need to get hold of an amp meter, i guess. i'm gonna go back to it and drink tea in front of it. that always helps.
