There probably will be as I got my replacements from the company who make the portamig. I got a sneaky peak of where your machine was born. Their parts store is like a welders toy shop
I was under the impression from the advertising that the Oxford machines they build have better capacitor banks. Nice that you were able to repair the machine rather than replace it.
I got 2 @ 47000uf 50v . The chap there was very helpful. He said it should be within the design tolerance for my machine. After all the total C is only 6% less now than the original bank of caps and they were 29 years old so probably not at their best.
I'm beginning yo wonder if not all the caps were working before it went bang last Saturday. With the new caps it now welds better than it ever did. Its a dream to use compared to my brother's back up machine I borrowed.
One of those things where the performance decays over time and you don't notice. A similar thing happened with my old Mig wirefeed where the grease turned to glue in the gearbox slowing the feed on start up, new grease made a big difference and I started to wonder if buying a Portamig 215 was a good idea!
They degrade over time as the electrolyte dries out. The capacitance drops and the ESR increases. They can fail catastrophically, which is why they have valves to vent gases rather than have them build up and cause an explosion. The small ones have a pattern scoured on the top to create a deliberate weak spot. As one fails, and with any luck quietly goes open circuit, the others have to take more stress, and as they are ageing as well, are pushed onto a steeper downward slope.
In many ways they are naff components with a limited life, but there's no other way to get that much capacitance in a thing of anything like a convenient size for a remotely affordable price.
I did notice the transformer was making a louder hum afterwards but then I leant on the machine and it stopped. Turned out I'd put the lid back on back to front and so it was rattling! The sponge cushsion strip was obviously put there for a reason.
