ok - All has been going well.
I've made up some nice 3" stainless exhaust with my Clarke 135TE Mig with stainless wire and pure argon.
Using the 2nd level of power I get lovely(ish) welds on 1.5mm thick stainless with just the right penetration. It's a touch too much power but power level one does sod all...
Anyway - trying to weld a stainless v-band flange to the end of the 3" tube.
I did 8 tacks around the edge, before joining the tacks together. I moved as quick as I could too.
But the thing still warped the flange! It's pretty thick too. I plan to manually grind it flat again (hours of fun).
Is there a knack to this warping with stainless? Is the MIG just not up to it and I need more focussed heat of a TIG?
ho hum
THis is a v-band flange
