Hi, first post.
I'm a complete beginner and have been reading up for a few weeks.
I am looking to buy a Mig welder to repair bodywork on my LDV pilot van, which has the thinnest steel panels ever.
I also would like to weld steel bike frames for some fun, I have made some from Bamboo and if I get a welder it would be nice to try some metal ones as well.
I think I will probably make lots of stuff and would like the most versatile welder I can get for my money.
I need to allow in my budget for an rcd plug, a decent extension cable reel, a mask, wire and gas.
At the minute the Clarke 150TE or 151TE seems to be the best value that the forum seems to accept as alright. Plus it has the mask and gas thrown in.
I am not keen on the 160 with the bigger bottles as I have to lug my tools a fair way from where they are stored to where they are used and the ground is rough.
I'm not adverse to buying a second hand one if the right thing turns up, but I don't really know what I'm looking for yet.
Would the Clarke be a sensible buy on the budget for the things I need to do and maybe some extra curricular projects later?
Thanks,
Elma
