    hi

After my railing thread here I've decided to upgrade my mig . I'm after something that can weld 4-5 mm plate not all day but if needs must (about 2-3 mm normal but capable of bodywork to ) .

What kind of amp set am I looking for as I thought I bought big enough last time for what I wanted but hey ho !

Also could you tell me if I need a 16/32 socket , I know a house hold supply can run upto 150 ish after that I'm not sure what I need .

    Regards

clarke 150 can weld right up too 5mm with prep for certain it will weld 4mm

you have the gys and also the sealey however saying that using a 13amp supply is much better and allows you to go much higher on a mig welder

Most MIG sets in the 180 range should manage it, and run from a domestic supply if not cranked right up/

Look on a welding equipment site they normally quote input current or fuse rating. At 185 amps youd need a 16 amp supply, some160s do.

Always buy bigger than you need. If you need 150 min buy 180.

If your fuse box isnt miles away a 16 amp supply shouldnt be too difficult.
