Hi all
I am going to start a couple of seperate topics relating to my new m300 lathe just to keep questions seperate to each thread and hopefully easier for future people with the same questions to find
The M300 lathe I recently bought is labelled up as an M300 imperial machine with chart for inch thread dial and 4 TPI lead screw
But after cleaning it up a bit today I have noticed my leadscrew is stamped with "6mm" meaning it's a metric leadscrew! The half nuts engage fine so they must be metric also I would have thought
But I wanted to ask a couple of things...
There is 1 gear in the gearbox which dictates metric or imperial
Part number - 303105 36T metric
Part number - 303106 35T English
So how easy is the gearbox to remove so I can check this? I don't mind draining oil as it all needs replacing anyway
As my thread dial is English with just 1 gear can I engage at any gear for metric but have to leave it engaged due to not having the full stack of metric gears?
Are the metric and imperial screw cutting charts on the front of the head stock different for metric and imperial machines? I assume they are as they have different part numbers?
And lastly.....
On a metric m300
What is the standard from factory gear and idler arrangement behind the change wheel cover please? Once again I'd like to check this to see if I am set up for metric or not
Many thanks
Marc
