Carry on mate. I very intrested in the information and work. That dividing head is a nice little bit of kit.Yep, satisfaction level 10, man point don't matter to real men
But not mild steel, castellated barrel is unknown half hard scrap, shank is a big old tool holder with a cool stamping file hard, both blunted tools pretty quickly (look at the tool drag on the surfaces), Mig weld is quite hard, threaded part is leaded steel for ease of threading, washer is sacrificial.
Did think of annealing the hard parts before machining and hardening again after welding, but life too short, be alright...
Tricky set up with over size and completely incompatible but free (donated to the cause by a mate) dividing head.

All held up with a nice £4 boot fair machine jack, looks like some clever chap made it in his shed, lovely and smooth to use due to the bronze threaded insert, respect.

I ground a tool to fit the width of the HSS blanks I'm going to use, the hard steel parts took the edge off pretty quick but if I reground, the clearance angles meant the slot would then be too narrow, there was no way of moving the dividing head to compensate so I ignored my nay saying brain and soldiered on, in a bloke-ish sort of way, be alright.
