Metal repair Help and advice please

Afternoon!

First off, I have no understanding of metalwork other than the cse stuff from school.....
Absolutely no understanding of welding other than what I did for my apprenticeship many many years ago!
So please be patient with me and I will try to understand!

Long story short, I Googled metal repair and then spent 3hrs reading this forum.
Must say, you guys know your stuff!

I have a coffee grinder I acquired cheap on eBay and the photos were more flattering than the real thing.....

Just need some advice about repairing the damage to the teeth.......

Would I be able to JB weld and file, or is there a better way ie silver solder or brazing?? (And is there anyone in Hertfordshire willing to take on a little side project?)
I understand it will need re plating but it will be cheaper than replacing.......
It appears to be chrome plated brass but I might have that wrong......

I've welded brass a couple of times before. The way I did it will require some expensive kit as I didn't solder it. I welded it with aluminium bronze filler on AC tig. You can also do it on DC tig with Si bronze but I've not done that. The good thing about the job your doing is brass is soft so you can easily shape it back when your done. Where about a in herts are you?

Hello, Photos are not too clear, what are the teeth for? what purpose are they serving.?More info will get you better advice. Looks like they are just to aid gripping when tightening the lower screwed portion.

You cannot plate over JB Weld, so that's out.

I've spent weeks on lesser forums waiting for one reply!!!

OK, the teeth are purely for gripping the adjuster ring..... There is SUPPOSED to be an adjuster rod that screws into the unit in 5 different places. However someone has broken 5 different screws into the holes.......The adjuster ring adjusts the height of the upper cutting disc(Burr) onto the lower one... It is a very soft component.... But nicely machined.

The teeth aren't chewed all the way around, just near where the adjuster rod screws in...... Probably a poor attempt by someone more cack handed than me to effect a repair.

It is in a poor condition, but still serviceable...... Ideally I would like to repair (Have someone else do a good job!) it as it's original and approx £110 to replace, and I have stripped it to the bones and just waiting to have it powder coated to make it all shiny new nice!
But if it's too much aggravation , I will live with it in its present condition until such time as finances allow replacement!

The threads and comments I have read on here lead me to believe you alchemists can do ANYTHING with metal!!!

Sounds like a job for silver solder, however getting it plated won't be cheap.

I don't think it's worth repair if a new one is £110 . I charge £20 an hour plus consumables for my work and there is a lot of work in shaping those teeth back to the correct pitch after it's welded. And you've got to try and get it coated after. Don't know what anyone else thinks but if your not undertaking the work your self then I don't think it's cost effective to repair if a new one is only a shade over £100.

so the teeh dont mesh with any other teeth, purly just to aid grip when adjusting by hand ? if so just silver solder it and shape and you could also paint it silver to cut the costs down
