It depends on what supply the welder requires and what you have supplied to the welder Steve.
If you're asking about standard 13A sockets then you can run a 150A mig pretty much flat out without blowing the fuse, I have run my 220A machine on a 13A supply and only occasionally had to replace the fuse.
The power supply isn't really a consideration in these things. If you need to weld a certain thickness of steel buy a welder that can weld that thickness. They've got a lot of power settings so you can weld at whatever setting that doesn't blow the fuse.
I'm still running a 185 amp welder on a 13 amp fuse. One of these days I really ought to fit one of those round blue 16 amp plugs.
