Different tools for different jobs Imo. Mag drills can be very dangerous things so I would not want to have to use one in place of something elseHi guys my bench drill has packed up. I'm wondering if I should buy a bench drill or a mag drill. If I buy the mag drill I was planning on making a stand out of my old bench drill I'd have the table with the vise then. Any advice welcome cheers.
I have seen one swing around 20 odd foot of 80mm box before the whole lot hit the deck, huge amount of torque if it all goes wrong.Mag drills can be very dangerous things so I would not want to have to use one in place of something else
Well I have both a pillar drill and a mag drill, and I'd not want to do without either.
They both do very different jobs, and although there is a degree of crossover, neither one can do the job of the other one properly.
You need both really. If it were me in your shoes, I'd look at second hand, and get one of each.
Before I had the mag drill, I used an old Spitt (sp?) SDS drill with a chuck adapter and a selection of hole saws. Nice and slow and plenty of torque. It did the job fine, but not as quick as the mag drill.
