I brought a clarke 230 tec 3 weeks ago at a vat free day. Paid for the machine by card the old way how they copy on the carbon copy paper. The money has not gone out of the bank yet how long does it normly take
... just when you're a bit skint. My missus hasa continual problem with her Solo card. She'll buy something (the most notorious being 34p for an nline postage label) with her card (the card transaction won't be authorised if there's no money in the account), then the bank will take something else out the next day, and hit her with a £34 card misuse fee!
We've already claimed a couple of grand charges off them. Still doesn't stop them. The thing that annoys me is that it so easily sets up a cycle of grief. You go over a little bit, they charge you for bouncing something, then because you've been charged they charge you again for bouncing the same payment when it's represented, then they charge you for going overdrawn (due to their charges). Before you know it, you're a couple of hundred overdrawn, and the bill still isn't paid! The people they really hit are those (like us) who are living close to the line, and who are too busy working to make ends meet to keep much of an eye on things. Bah!
Its hard to make a living, totally agree with you.
All we can do is make sure we dont step into their traps. I.E. keep tabs on balance (difficult when your wife doesn't seem to understand that you are totally serious about their not being enough money.)
At least in Europe, consumers (rightly or wrongly are given priority in court over corporation) so that is something which takes the weight off.
Just been told by my bank that if Iwant a photocopy of a cheque sent to me to check if they have made a mistake then it will cost me £5.00.This is also the bank that if my account went under £5000 at any point during a month after a cheque was cleared then I was charged for that cheque and all the others from the start of the month now they just charge £15 a month instead, talk about a rolling target. If I came up with such schemes to charge my customers extra I would be called a frigging rip off merchant
I am in the process of claiming the last Six years of charges on both my account and my wifes.
I phoned the bank up and asked them for a computer print out of charges applied to our account over the last six years, they can only charge £10 maximum for this. As opposed to asking for copies of your statements which they tend to charge through the nose for, well Nationwide do although HSBC were fine and supplied at no cost.
You have to send your claim letter recorded delivery as they are obliged to respond within seven days...if they don't..well then it's Hammer Time! and no, I'm not talking about dressing up in baggy trousers and singing 'I'm to legit to quit'
I'll let you know how we fair..I think over the last six years we calculated charges of just over a grand..
