Long time lurker now buying my first welder and hopefully my last for the next 10 years at least.
I am relatively experienced with mig and arc welding and ran at least 20kg in the summer using a Castolin Eutectic 3 phase - which was a great machine.
I have also used a thermal arc 181i for both mig and arc
I have a healthy budget and should be able to save the VAT and would rather buy once.
My local BOC shops best suggestion was a lincoln 180c like this one; at £1004 inc vat
http://www.rapidwelding.com/dynamic/DisplayItem.aspx?c=K14098-1MP
This included all the torches and regulator etc
He had not worked their long and was reluctant to suggest any other machines.
Does anyone have any experience with these? or could suggest a better alternative?
Key features for me
Potable
Durable
Low end amps for thin steel up to 200 amps
Single phase and capable of being used on an extension lead
Dedicated amps knob - not just a 1,2,3,4 setting
Euro torch
Arc and basic tig functions a bonus
Any thoughts greatfully received thanks Tim
