A family member bought a Lidl fluxcore a few years back, used it once and got nowhere with it.
I was offered a go to see if I could make it work, I figured it was probably user error.
I polished some 3mm scrap sheet to shiny, hit the trigger and yeah almost nothing, sparks as you scraped the wire back and forth, no setting would keep an arc lit. I tried preheat which helped a little but I could only manage some spluttery blobs.
Has anyone owned a Lidl or other cheapo generic fluxcore and had any success?
I'm wondering if it's worth a punt buying a roll of quality flux core and seeing if it does any better or am I just throwing money away
I would like to use it on a car chassis repair, looks to be about 1.5mm and an overhead position with awkward access so I don't fancy trying to stick weld it, it would be trivial with TIG but unfortunately it's on bricks outside and the wind does not want to let off.
