when i spoke to chap at warco this morning he said any iso 32 will be fine i confirmed for the headstock and the gear case and he said yes just use iso 32 hydraulic oil, its alot cheaper than the stuff they are selling and i does not say what it actually is which i think is abit shady. In my 1330, which is the same as yours, the headstock oil is much thicker than the others. I’ve been using iso 32 hydraulic oil for those, but haven’t yet found a substitute for the expensive Warco headstock oil.
Yeah it's fine. It's a thin hydraulic oil. What where they expecting. Gives a good coating on my lathe and seems to cling well.thats the one i was going to buy but had a few neg feedback so went with someone else does it seem good stuff someone said on there feedback that it was like it was watered down is it ok stuff
In this house, if it has gears in it it gets ep90 or atf depending how I’m feeling. Lathe got a dose of ep90 and it’s never been quieter
to be honest Bill i wouldn't know so i rang warco and asked there advice and they said iso32 for both would be fine? When changing my Harrison oil I went with ATF as it's a thin oil that's designed for lubricating gears.
If it was readily available in the 50's I expect that it would have been the choice then but hydraulic oil would have been the only option.
ATF also has the advantage of being a lovely colour that makes seeing the sight glass level easier!
Hydraulic oil wouldn't be my choice for any gearbox. There are tractors that use a multipurpose oil for the gears and hydraulics where it's shared oil, but never do they use a hydraulic oil for the gears.

cheers for the advice Bill, i dont really use the lathe that much so it should be fine however next time i will try atf and see if there is any difference, did an order on that bang good website on the 27th of last month and i received my order today thats 7/8 days i think thats a great service and i have not got any complaints with the tools either, just gotta wait for some holders to come nowI’d not worry yourself, hydraulic oil is common for lathes and obviously does the job for thousands of machines and it’s the recommendation for your machine.
It’s just that I believe ATF is a better choice, but as you’ve already made a purchase use the hydraulic oil.
