I am a novice hobby welder, just started playing around. Results are good on steel and aluminum, however I have some problems with this ESAB mask..
1. It is too sensitive to artificial light. Even if set to Minimal sensitivity, it darkens when faced in to light source that is less than one meter away, both halogen and luminescent lamps. It also triggers off reflections, even faint ones from workpiece or table. Impossible to work even on faintly lit table...
2. Sometimes it switches off briefly. I had these close-up TIG welds yesterday and it suddenly brightened for a split second. It did that several times, even when sensitivity was set at around 50%. I had to set it all the way to 100% to resolve this issue. But then it started darkening even from light far away, so back to issue #1. This is very serious problem, my eyes still hurt.
What the hell? I have never came across such issues. Is this "normal"?
How do I check the battery? There is a LED, but no button to activate it. Could not find a manual online.
