I was absolutely sure it was not, and I'm sure I've seen loads of people on here say it's not but in one of Adam Booth's recent videos he had a drill bit slip in his tailstock so he wound the barrel out, pointed to a threaded hole and said it was for a grub screw to press against the tang to prevent it from slipping.
He didn't have the screw for it so instead he put a drive dog on the drill against the compound slide but is that really what it's for?
