Having just seen this lot of Gysmi welders for sale on a popular bidding site (item 230512204210) as spares or repairs made me wonder what percentage of the newly manufactured machines this lot represents ?
Could not say, agree on the face of it, does not look good for the make, but maybe it is a company that buy catalogue returns.
Few years back had a friend with a Mini, failed MOT with hole in the sill. So he ordered a mig from wifes catalogue, freemans, choice, whatever. Delivered free, came with wire, bottle of gas, and a faceshield. He welded patch onto the car, used the gas, half roll of the the small reel, spatter on head shield, boxed it all up. Phoned catalogue company said trips electrics, had it collected free, and was not charged for the welder.
GYS are a French company, their welders have Made in France marked on them and they're found in the DIY sheds and builder's merchants in France. They have a one year guarantee and I suppose that's worked out in the light of the economics of returns. I don't see them much in the UK.
My guess is they are about the same as any other inverter with a one year guarantee.
I don't see that you can draw any particular conclusion about that lot without knowing the story behind them. If they came from the GYS UK agent (there must be one) 22 isn't bad if it's the returns from maybe a thousand sold over two or three years. If a company bought 25 two years ago, and that's the result it doesn't speak well for them.
I seem to recall someone on here (possibly Weldequip) saying they're actually Chinese in origin, not French.
Considering how many machines that was and how much they sold for someone got a real bargain!! Get just one working and you've pretty much got your money back.
They're a French company which has been going since 1964. They have a Chinese subsidiary started in 2004. The welders say Made in France.
My guess is that the boards and major components are made in China and enough of the screwdrivering together of the final product is done in France to claim Made in France legally. You may have to do very little screwdriver work (such as putting the covers on) to claim Made in France.
Probably just another brand of welder with a one year guarantee.
