hi guys
im new to the forum so take it easy on me ok, im 24 years old and i'm looking into learning how to MIG weld first and then TIG once im competent. im currently looking around for an evening welding course but i've been advised get hold of a welder for at home to practice with.
i have a little workshop at home and mainly do a lot of engine rebuilding and kitcar building but there are area's that i want to venture into like sump modification and chassis production and hence need to learn how to weld.
i would say that the thickest steel i would be welding would be about 3.5-4mm so im thinking that a 130-150amp welder should be more than enough. hopefully i want to be able to weld stainless as well to do exhaust manifolds, do you use MIG for stainless, im not sure?
anyway, my question is, can any of you recommend me a MIG welder for a beginner? i this one on the aldi website and looks like it might be ok http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/2867_9841.htm but im guessing the torch will be a bit crappy, so i have heard that euro torces are supposed to be good, what about variable wire speed quides etc
All advice welcome
cheers & HELLO again
Alex
