I've got an ancient and dilapidated SIP HandyMig gasless which I've had for a few years now. It's time to replace it now - it's ****** me off for the last time. Usual wire feeding problem, it knows the least convenient moment to play up then goes for it everytime.
Right, to the point. I've been looking at Clarke's in MM, in particular the 160EN as I want a Dual Purpose. It's going to be used for car body work mainly (I have a 1977 VW Camper and a 1985 Golf Cabriolet), but also want to be able to do the odd jobs that come along like garden gates, also the van has some quite thick chassis stuff, not just bodywork.
1. Am I right to go for a Clarke?
2. What's the difference between the blue and red ones?
3. Where's the best place to get one? MM seems to be cheapest on the net but I never have one of their 10% or VAT free cards when I need something.
4. How do you run them with Gas - is the regulator and gas bits all with the welder?
5. What gas is best for car bodywork? or should I stick to gasless?
6. Does the Gas produce tidier, cleaner weld than flux cored?
Although I've been welding with the Gasless for years I still consider myself to be very green when it comes to welding.
Your thoughts will be much appreciated.
Dan.
