Just setting up my second hand welder. The torch has been through the wars. I took off the shroud and tip and purchased replacements.
Originally thought I'd got the wrong ones, as the thread on the tip I removed was much larger.
Turns out, after a fair bit of investigation, that the tip wasn't designed for this torch (it's M6 at least). The previous user had sanded it into a cone shape and rammed it in there, totally destroying the threads.
I tried retapping the hole, and managed to get a portion of threads further down the neck. Problem is, now the tip is deeper than it is probably designed.
I measured it as 4.5mm inset from the edge of the shroud:
This is the far too big tip I extracted (right):
Will this be okay or affect welding?
