I recently bought a Hobbymat BFE mini mill off ebay, for parts not working - which was a good description.
Was hoping it would be an electrical issue, but the switches, start cap and motor have proved to be fine when disconnected from the gearbox.
The spindle and down feed are locked. With the motor engaged it just hums.
I cannot turn the spindle by hand and the downfeed lever has been snapped off trying I reckon, but it won't turn rocking with grips either.
Taken it apart to gearbox for easier working.
Took the speed selector side off the gearbox.
There are no obvious signs of anything broken or bad gear teeth, broken bits of metal etc.
I can move the lower selector easily by hand on it's shaft to locate between it's 2 black gears.
The upper selector fork is stuck solid, engaged on it's lower black gear circled. I have tried prising it up carefully with a flat blade but it ain't budging - not sure I want to force it much more.
I've not opened up the feed lever side yet.
Do you think that locked gear/selector is normal - or could it be the root of the issue? - or something else?
Appreciate ideas on how to proceed checking
