Hey,
I've been spending the last day or two browsing around this great forum, getting ideas, info and recommendations.
Unfortunately, whilst I know what I DONT want, I'm not sure yet what I do want...
I want to weld car panels mainly - that's what I'm buying for. We're taling thin sheet as well as thicker chassis metal and so on.
Currently I'm using an old Sip 180 or something. I don't like it and the roller bearing doesn't grip and the wire keeps falling out of the liner and jamming. (also, sorry about my lack of technical words!) I don't have the patience or mojo to make this work as it's still an old Sip no matter what I do!
So, I've about £200-ish to spend, and want something that will do me for plating sills and suchlike on old rusty cars.
I like the flux (?) wire system as that's what I'm familiar with. But then again, I'm sensing from this forum that Arc welding may be enough to do what I want?! If that is so let me know!
Is there a huge advantage in going to gas bottles? And will i ever need a big power output? Why do i need something rated at 180 if I'll be welding all day at just 25amp? Or have I crossed wires here?
Anyway, just to keep it fresh in my mind I blew £57 on a auto-tint Jefferson mask today, and I'm looking to hopefully be ordering the Mig within the week so it is a genuine enquiry... and if anyone has any links or whatnot - point me the right way! thankyou very much y'all
