Hi Everyone
I have recently bought an old 1983 mercedes 230e to tinker with. It needs a little bit of welding (nothing to severe)
I have had a Wolf mig140 laying in the garage for a number of years. The little bottle of gas that came with it exhausted itself ridiculously quickly. Since then I have never bothered replacing the gas and changed the welder to the gasless setting (wire and polarity)
I have been completely unable to get any tidy welds. The Splatter I get off them is rediculous, can't seem to get the settings right. The thin sheet metal (a mondeo wing) I have been practicing on either burns through or the wire just spatters and spits everywhere. The wing is definitely steel.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
I had moderate success with gas but I am not going to tackle anything on the car as it is, I think I will go and buy some gas but keen to know where I am going wrong.
