hey guys, only recently started welding, did a City&guilds course in welding and fabrication a while back as a part of an Electrical Engineering course so i know the basics, just a case of having a practice as i am a little rusty, basically relearning to weld so i can finally do my own welding on my cars and i will be able to fabricate 1 off parts like engine mounts, water rails, manifolds, exhaust systems etc etc i bought an SWP Redline 180 a couple of months back which seems to do a pretty good job and a couple of days ago i got given a non working Murex Tradesmarc 151, the later of which is the main reason i have signed up to get some advice on what may be the fault

welcome. Any idea why the murex is dead? Plenty on here with the same machine that can advise, plenty of leccies too

hey, thanks for the welcome, not so sure, possibly the power switch as it doesn't feel so great, stiff to turn and doesn't click firmly into settings, and there is a bit of dodgy wiring, i have put up a thread asking for advise in hopes that someone can give me a couple of ideas to check before i spend hours with a multimeter haha

check the rotary switch first. Bell it out with a meter. Then start checking things like main tranny, diodes on the rectifier, wire feed motor etc.
does anything work on it i.e. Lights, feed motor, gas valve etc or is it totally dead?

will do thanks and totally dead, no power to anything by the looks of it

Fuse in the plug? Burnt connections on transformer, dodgy flex cable

fuse in plugs fine, checked that, cant see anything thats burnt out, could be the flex, will check continuity on it, cheers
