Hi folk,
Please will you help me make a decision as to the type of welder i should invest in. I'm ready to buy my first welding plant but not sure if i ought to go Arc or Mig.
My budget is relatively small, at max. £200 all in. I have a few projects in mind, including a new rear crossmember on the Landy, a winch bumper and a log splitter at some point too. The landy jobs will be 3-6mm box and plate, and the log splitter somewhat bigger dimensions, with a rsj type construction. There are a few jobs i also have in mind which will involve some sheet work....
I realise my budget is likely to prohibit purchasing a Mig that will do the bigger stuff (min 150amp?), especially when the extras like gas bottle are considered. So would an Arc machine be a better option, at around the 190-210 amp mark?
So i'm looking for a cheap & versatile machine - What would you go for? (or should i wait till i got some more dough saved!)
I have used both before, but not "skilled" in either YET
(i also intend to do a City and Guilds course this coming academic year..)
Your thoughts please guys!
Cheers
Mike
