It suddenly occurred to me I had a collet chuck somewhere which came with my Colchester Student a few years ago. Never really thought much about it because it looked incomplete.
in fact, it's nearly all I need!
That body fits directly onto my L0 taper (I assume!) then I just need to make a drawbar to start using it.
Problem is, it came with a bunch of collets which I am at a loss to identify. Before I go to the hassle of making up a drawbar to suit this thread, I ought to find out what spec that collet chuck is. Otherwise if I buy some new ones, I won't know if they will fit my chuck. Obvously I am also assuming the collets fit that chuck correctly (they appear to although quite a bit of the collet sticks out).
For reference the thread is 23mm (22.97mm 0.904inch body) with a 1.5 tpi pitch. Looks like a square thread too (acme??)
Anyhow, while I am chuffed to bits to discover I have a collet chuck in the first place, I do need to correctly identify the precise type before I start throwng any time or money at it. Any help most welcome.
