Hello I am old noob. I was given a budget welder about 10 years ago that I used on little diy stuff, like alterations to a traler and fabricating a ball hitch thingy to attach it to the tractor I had. Now I have need of my welder again. I need to work on my 1972 VW type2. I have a hole in the foot well I would like to patch the roof, rain water gutter and a bit around the engine bay. Please could you give me some advice in regard to whether i need to:
1. disconect the battery
2.take any precautions as regared to the petrol in the tank ('welding grinding cutting)
3. what gauge metal and rods to use
I want to keep her and need to patch her up before August
Thanks
