Hi all, Just signed up to the forum, I'm a fitter, turner welder by trade, been in maintenance for over 30 years.
Also do a bit at home in my own workshop.
Looking forward to picking brains on here
Cheers, Dave.
Ta for the welcome Steve. Most of welding is simple fabrication work, building up worn journals etc.
I haven't done any TIG since I was an apprentice, I have been reading the posts on the Chinese/German TIG sets on e bay....... I'm tempted by the 200.
I need to do some stainless welding on 6mm round 304. I bought a reel of stainless wire and a disposable bottle of "Argon" ? (I'm assuming its pure argon not TC) from Halfords for about £20. Not had a chance to try it yet.
Perhaps I out to be out in the workshop instead of sitting indoors in the warm on the computer.........
Same here with the TIG. I also did some as an apprentice in the late 70's / early 80's, but haven't touched it since. Recently ordered a Portamig so I will have to wait a bit before thinking of buying another machine.
I guess you have looked at the various posts on here regarding the chinese/german inverters. It seems you take a chance - might get lucky and be OK for DIY use, but I prefer to save up a bit longer myself and try to afford a machine that should last. Wellington Welding still have the Lorch inverter on special at the moment. It is still a lot more expensive than the E-bay stuff, and is only scratch-start TIG, but is about £200 off list price and is quality kit.
If it's still on offer in about 2 years I might have one
