Would just like to say hello and thank you for the amazing information on this forum. Would of been much better though if i found it before purchasing a welder. LOL.
I wanted a welder suitable to carry out repairs on classic cars/ tractors etc. I have had a bit of experience in the past but mostly TIG and was around 20 years ago when i was an apprentice. I did also have an unsuccessful go of a cheap MIG to repair a car but gave up in the end. LOL. and why i was willing to spend a little more.
With the advice of a Local supplier i purchased a Wilkinson Star Autostar 160 inverter MIG. It Came with Helmet, Trolley, Gloves, regulator & wire. So pretty much everything to get us going apart from gas. The Cost for this package was £545plus vat which was more than i wanted to pay but liked how compact it was and the ability to TIG and stick weld if needed.
Below is some pictures of welder and first attempted welds on 1mm using 0.8 wire and the settings recommended in the chart. Some may notice the welder is very similar JASIC PRO 160 with the main difference being the length of warranty which is only 3 years instead of 5. Doesn't seem to be many reviews of either but I'm impressed with mine so far. Time soon will tell.
Cheers Garry
