It does look a bit uniform to be pure decay though. I'll just fill over it from both sides.
At least glue a coin or something in there before you start slapping filler in.

How big is that hole?
It's going to be a lovely grinder when finished.Whilst the twins are in the vice getting chipped clean, I finished off the painting of this guard today. Although I'd done it before, I just wasn't happy with the join between the cone and the band - it's a lap join on the underside and there was too much of a trench for my liking. Took a few goes of filler and a lot of sanding, primer etc but now it looks pretty good I think.
Also saw to the little table on the other side. This moves and I didn't think it was worth filling it as there was so little that needed doing. Here it is in primer which I'll leave to harden overnight then paint in the morning.
