Hi,
Please forgive what I'm sure will be really silly questions but this is my first foray into metal work.
I'm building a CNC machine the base of which is steel (mostly box section). I've cleaned all the steel down to bare metal will a combination of flap discs and wire wheel and I'd like to get it painted before it goes rusty again :-)
The machine will be inside but it's likely to take a few knocks so I want a tough finish that can be repaired with out too much hassle. I'd like to try and get a reasonably good finish if possible but at the same time it's got to not cost the earth as this project is already causing open wallet surgery. Unfortunately I don't have any spray equipment :-(
Someone advised me to get a brush / roller on etching primer and then top coat it with a lorry or coach paint. I'd like to paint it yellow so I was thinking of JCB paint as the top coat (something like this maybe http://combicolor.co.uk/metal-paint/combicolor.html). Elsewhere I've read advice that says just go for an epoxy primer and others say use a zinc phosphate primer.
So, here's what I have to paint:
I suppose my first question is does that look clean enough? Assuming that's a yes (please let it be a yes) then what is the best primer and top coat to use?
Cheers.
