I've had my Clarke MIG 120E for 21 years and am now looking for an upgrade to something with more power. I have never been satisfied with my efforts on thin sheet metal or with anything above 3 mm.
I've been reading many threads on this forum about the pros and cons of lots of machines available around the 150 A mark. The GYS Smartmig 162 has interested me but I notice that it only has 4 voltage setting, whereas my Clarke has 6. Would this be a step backwards?
I also notice that GYS does not have a separate listing on the manufacturer's section of the forum. Is GYS not a popular make?
I get the impression from the general advice given on the forum that it is good to go for a Euro torch and a powerful wire feeder. The GYS has both. It has a range of 30 to 160 A. The Clarke manual does not state what the lowest setting has.
Any further advice/comments would be appreciated. Is there anything better than the GYS in the same price range?
