I've got the forming pliers but I find they mark the pipe which I'm not too happy about hence why I started using cable inside the tube to get a tighter bend.
Interesting. my son is going to be running saabs as track cars.I have both the SAE version and the DIN version, both handy, GM stuff is generally DIN (Vaux, Saab etc etc etc)
Mini roller cutter? any links mate?£33 is expensive...?
That one doubleboost linked to on page 1 which I also use has no trouble whatsoever with all the steel pipes I use it on. I also always use a mini roller cutter when cutting pipe as it does a neat job with no swarf in the pipes or deburring.
I have sussed it. it's got both SAE and DIN types in one kit.Well aside from one very short pipe into the master cylinder on a series II land rover I have never encountered a car with anything other than 3/16" pipe. But i'm a farm mechanic so have not experienced as much as a car mech so if any of them say different it's worth noting.
I did once ask my local garage for some 1/4 fittings (not uncommon on tractors) and was told they don't have them as he's never (been in that job 16 years) found anything other than 3/16 on a car. That's from a backstreet garage who seem to get just about anything in through the door.
As to why that set shows two tools and is twice the price I don't know. I can't read the listing, or it might be that if you make it more expensive someone will buy it because it must be better
Can I just confirm the Franklin one is SAE and not DIN?Yes, double and single Din
I have found the answer to my own question. the cheaper kit looks the same but has a different handle and no screw on the adapter. so looks like a copy...So whats the difference between the one john posted, branded Franklin and this one?

They work but you need 2 strong blokes to flare steer
So the one you posted is still my best betThey work but you need 2 strong blokes to flare steer
......no screw on the adapter. so looks like a copy...
Mini roller cutter? any links mate?
What I was highlighting was they are made by two different companies as one part has a thread on one does not......that's a stop not an adaptor.
hi
i am reading this post as i need to replace a couple of pipes on my 2005 Citroen xara picasso and was looking at these franklin tools.
i am not sure which one i need as is see there is a sae 3/16 single/double tool and a din 4.75 bubble flare one, and i have not taken any pipe of the car yet to check as i need to use it.
anybody know which one is needed as i thought most European cars had the din 4.75?? so what uses the sae 3/16??
i was looking at sykes pickavant set as they have both , but are pretty expensive and i dont think i will use it that often to justify, but if its best??
any ideas would be very helpful.
