Hi, I know this is an old thread on the forum, but I am new to welding and forums..I own a Starweld 190 and i wish to build myself a motorcycle ramp out of box section steel. My question is on the Starweld it has 48V and a 70 V , which one do I use and what is the other for? I will be trying to weld 3/4mm box section. What are the best rods to use? Any advice would be appreciated. Best Mel
The higher volt setting should be nicer and easier to use.
2.5mm E6013 rods should do fine, buy a good brand such as Phoenix, Murex, GYS, Bohler, ESAB and not cheaper ones such as Clarke, Super6 as the quality can be dreadful and not worth the tiny amount of money saved. Keep the rods dry.
You would normally want the higher voltage setting if you were using the machine with long welding leads, to help overcome voltage drop in the cables themselves.
