It's not so much the fact that the speed limit for them is 50, it's that a squaddy will drive a landrover that he doesn't own at 50 regardless or whether there's tarmac, mud or fresh air beneath the wheels
tdi is basically the same engine with a bit more webbing on the block and a turbo, just about the most simple beast ever
This, the asthmatic version doesnt seem to have the power to wear itself out but the 2.5td has a bad reputation although my 2.5 td is at 130k now with no issues. I'd like to fit a 200tdi when I have a zillion other projects out the way first but to get better diesel mileage and the extra 30bhp wont go amis either. As far as it's a 2.5 diesel is the only similarity other than that it's a completely different engine. The 2.5 td is a closer relation but they managed to make things much worse from a reliability point of view.
I think my first 'mod' is going to be to get rid of the awful glass fuse box, lost the right low beam today because the connection is loose.
Thats the plan,
Ill do 1 wire at a time so even i can't mess it up

A completely different engine that shares the architecture, bore and stroke dimensions, or just another evolution of the same basic design Rover started with in the 1950s?As far as it's a 2.5 diesel is the only similarity other than that it's a completely different engine. As far as I was aware, in simple terms the td was basically an n/a with a turbo added, which stressed the block and led to failures. The tdi was basically the same design beefed up with a revised head etc, but all three cIations share the same underpinningsA completely different engine that shares the architecture, bore and stroke dimensions, or just another evolution of the same basic design Rover started with in the 1950s?
