I've got a set of ER32 collets for the mill.
In the back of my mind I though that I might eventually pick up one of those cheap ER collet chucks that mount to a backplate on the Lathe and share the collets between them. Lathe is a 1" spindle bore.
I was also going to pick up some square/hex collet blocks at the same time and standardise on the one ER32 system, seemed logical.
However, I'm now wondering if moving up to ER40 for workholding on the lathe and possibly the collet blocks would be the better plan - leaving the ER32 for just mill tooling.
I'm aware that ER collets are not really designed for workholding, but I can't stretch to multisize collets, and people seem to have good success providing the work is long enough to be gripped properly.
I know you can get oversized collets for ER32, but they are expensive and you can almost buy a set of ER40 for the same money - although sadly looks like i missed the boat on the zoro ones.
Anybody had a similar dilemma, thoughts on the pros and cons, or is there a better solution?
