It is often year before we know if we made the best choice. So I thought people might like some feed back on one of my past efforts.
It is generally know that epoxy paint should not be exposed to sunlight and is best over painted.
A 5 or 6 years ago now I cleaned the underside of my MGB back to bare metal. As I was competing in the standard class of the MG Car Club Luffield Speed Championship at the time I wanted the new finish to be as light weight as practical. I chose to use 2 coats Jotan 80 black epoxy which I brushed on. As it was the underside of the car I felt the sunlight would not damage it so I did not overcoat it.
The surface of the paint has now gone milky in a way I would have expected as a result of exposure to the sun.
As I think I have now retired from competition, as a concession to my wife, I will probably accept the weight penalty of covering it with something. I have Waxoyle under seal on the shelf so that is pole choice but I am aware that Gravitex is popular on this site. Which is likely to be better from a sound reduction stand point?
