The Lincoln dual shield we get over here is in my opinion dog doo.
The ESAB 15.14 is excellent.
The Korean brands are pretty damn good too and very cheap.
I don’t know off the top of my head any 1mm dual shield wires for all positions.
Don’t worry though, 1.2mm dual shield run at similar amperage ranges to 1mm solid wire.
The Esab 15.14 goes into spray at around 160A 23V with M21 ArC-20.
It can still be used how you mention. Spray transfer straight up with no weaving.

Have you had much experience or done any testing on stainless FCAW Brad? Had to do some testing on it the other day, bohler wire, 1.1mm, can’t remember the exact composition. It was just for a fillet in the flat, had it on about 29-30v and 260 or so amps and when we did the macro on it it was barely in there at all! 10mm 316L material. Any thoughts?
1.1mm Bohler seems strange. They are largely European so 1.2mm is the norm....1.1mm is the 0.045" favoured by America.....check the gas, some of the US wire like CO2 more than mixed (I know it goes against the grain). The problem with CO2wire used with Mixed Gas is that it makes the weld "roll" especially in flat fillets so you get poor penetration (the weld flows under the arc). They are really designed for vertical welding, theres no advantage using them for flat position.Sorry to hijack this post!

A fair bit. I recently converted a friend of mine from solid wire. He used a standard step mig or a suitcase feeder off of his lincoln ranger engine drive. Saves him a hell of a lot of time on a lot of his jobs as its all out of position, vertical and overhead stuff. That's its biggest benefit.Cheers brad93 I must look into it I've no experience with dual shield flux core wire never used it before just came across it on the web and it caught my interest, do you do much welding with it yourself brad I know the use it a lot in the boat yards
Yes ^^^ I was shown how to run vertical up using 777 flux core, like you said, not at all like stick.Hi Dannyp it seams to be the case that outershild is only available to us in the 1.2mm range I've watched videos on YouTube of .035 Lincoln 71m wire being used in a Lincoln 210mp welding heavy wall box section and was comparing it to using a 4mm 7018 rod at the right setting also seen 20mm plate welded to 6mm box section using .045 (1.1mm) using a 250amp welder it also does vertical uphill welds on a straight push up ie using no weld manipulation triangles Christmas trees tracing the front puddle etc etc it does it faster and at higher volts and wire speed.
I haven't tried the Lincoln outersheild, there are suppliers in Dublin who have it but I never got a roll.I've got a new 16kg spool of Lincoln Outershield in 1.2mm if you want to try one out?
I don't think it's available in 0.9mm.
