hello to the collective , Wozzaaah suggested i get thready wiv it so here i am .
i am building a car ..and in the thread is the welder i just bought ..
http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/garage/medusa-206057/page157
as you can see its a big fat podger of a miller dialarc ,same as Wozzaaahs , except it was bought as not working , (was working then left for a while then didnt work). it came with a pedal and long tig torch and cable ,so for 80 quid all in i thought it worth a gamble .
i have had conflicting advice re whether i can hook it up to my 240 v single ph , but i know Wozz has done it so i am going ahead regardless ,nothing to lose .
i have a 25mm cable to the batcave ,and a 32 amp socket breaker on it ,so my plan is to try it turned right down low and see if it will not trip the trip ...this way i can see if i can get it to work at all, then if it does work i can step up to a 68 AMPS setup, i cannot really see myself using more than 150 amps anyways ,the machine is 310 amp capable .
re getting it running ..All i can say is ,the breakers were .8 and .4 ohm so straight through .there is no smell of burning ,the diodes i have not tested .the caps i found 2 of them were fine .looking at the sheet is it possible the fan would not run if the transformer were dead ?...but i would have thought that would trip the supply which i cannot find out until i finish my hasty 32 amp setup ..i am hoping that will suffice to test ,with the welder on lowest range and the pot turned to 0 ?
I am wondering if the chap in Bury where i got it had had one phase turned off by the land lord and didn’t realise it ...it really does not smell or look bad in there .some piccys ..
and yes , it was over 220 kg or ,in proper money 484 lbs .
regards
robert.
