My restoration project is going slow! Things keep getting in the way grr
My Vitara is totally stripped down now ready for welding. Thankfully the box sections/cavities are nice and simple.
A lot of seams are not sealed at all, and aren't rusting. They are just spot welded lap joints, look like right water traps, like the areas behind the headlights. Should I seal them all up anyway?
What seam sealer should I use? Last time I tried STARCHEM and it was a disappointment, peeling after a couple of years.
If using thick epoxy brushed on, is there a need for seam sealer? Seems the epoxy would seal the joint!
Which order? Sealer first then the paint?
How are people preserving their bare metal between sand blasting and painting? If I take the body outside for blasting, it could take me weeks to blast so in the mean time it will start to rust again. I heard of some phosphate based temporary corrosion coating, I think POR produce it as well, but it's not approved for use with Jotun which is what I'm using as the primer and top coat in non visible areas.
If I used epoxy paint do I still need to apply the rubbery type underseal?
