Greetings, Looking for a lot of advice. Been using Stick and Tig with my trusty Thermal Arc 150ES, However I now need a Mig Welder. As usual the wish list is long (and some of the wishes are essentials) Must be a single phase machine, can upgrade the domestic main to whatever is required. Will be welding mainly 3mm and 6mm mild steel. I think I should be looking at the semi-pro market as we need the welder to do more than a hobby machine. However we don't make JCB buckets. I make miniature railway stuff using laser cut 3mm and 6mm steel parts for chassis etc. Mostly the welds are not butt welds, we use tenon joints which need a spot weld to locate them then a longer bead to keep them in place. We tend to do a lot of our welding in batches so a good duty cycle would be essential. Portability doesn't matter as it will live in the workshop.
I would like to get something with slightly higher spec than we currently need, as I suspect we will quickly grow into it !
My Thermal Arc welder is 5 years old and seems to be higher build quality than the current models in their range. Have been looking at Oxford welders, it would be nice to buy British ! I have also picked up some very positive comments on the Portamig range but can't seem to find any information. Quality of service and back up is also an important factor. Any views, comments or advice would be very welcome.
Thanks
