Has anyone here done this or got any (polite) suggestions please....
This lever reverses the leadscrew for left or right hand thread cutting. It's cunning in that in the headstock the clutch it controls only engages in one place per revolution.
This means you can reverse the leadscrew without loosing sync on the thread being cut, even if it's metric (and the machine is imperial).
The control shaft is about on the same level as the oil so was originally sealed with "string packing".
The hole in the casting is threaded for a gland collar, but thread goes pretty much right up to an angled shoulder.
What should I replace the string with?
Current thoughts are round section PTFE. The shaft is 3/4" dia and the hole about 0.930" dia (collar is threaded 1" x 16 TPI).
Cheers, Martin.
